Adventures in Africa: Nairobi, Kenya

On Saturday I flew YEG-YUL-BRU-(KGL)-NBO, arriving here late Sunday. I am beginning a 5 week trip that will take me into Tanzania, (hopefully) up Kilimanjaro, into the Indian Ocean, and then into the Gulf where I will meet up with my wife in Dubai.

But, for now, this morning, I enjoyed a breakfast at my hotel, the Best Western in Central Business District, and then headed up onto the roof of my hotel for my first day-time views of sub-Saharan Africa.

After the bird's eye view, I headed out for a walk into CBD.

The still photos do not necessarily capture the "liveliness" well, so here is a little video.

After some walking, I sat and enjoyed a coffee at an outdoor table, soaking up some of the CBD atmosphere.

After coffee, I ate some lunch . . .

. . . and then headed back to my hotel, where I was picked up for a tour out to Nairobi National Park. I will post about the park separately, but on the way we passed through Kibera, which is likely the largest slum in Africa. Here are some views from the highway.
