Adventures in South America: Lima, Peru

I am en route to Cusco, and landed in Lima early this morning, having flown YEG-DEN-IAH-LIM. I managed to get most-of-a-good-night's sleep before getting up this morning and enjoying a few hours in the historic centre.

Mostly, I just walked around, and somehow managed to visit the lovely Plaza de Armas three separate times!

At one point the cathedral bells were ringing.

Later in the morning, I encountered a procession makings its way out of the cathedral.

I walked around the nearby blocks, as well, including eventually enjoying coffee at the Plaza San Martin.

Around noon I ran into a parade--the procession from the cathedral seemed to have grown significant!-- and I managed to work my way to the front to see it all.

After the parade I made my final visit to Plaza de Armas to eat a wonderful lunch that include ceviche and other seafood.

With lunch enjoyed, I had about another hour before I had to leave downtown Lima for the aiport, so I walked down to the Malecon del Rio.

There is an aviary and petting zoo here and a few other interesting things along the walkway.

I walked back to my hotel to get my bag past the Basílica and Convent of San Francisco.

Now I am off to Cusco!
