Adventures in Asia: Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

This morning after breakfast I wanted to find the post office, so I took the bus back toward Inspiration Park. The post office was not as easy to find as I expected, but this is the "old" town of Ashgabat and it is a nice place to walk around.

I mailed my postcard, and then stopped for coffee, before bussing back to the Berkarar mall, where I did a little shopping at the grocery store. It was an impressive store and I was really taken with the bakery.

I ordered some gozleme, which the lady made for me on this grill.

With some pomegranate juice, it made a nice lunch.

This afternoon I will be heading north out of Ashgabat and into the Karakum Desert. I enjoyed Ashgabat a lot more than I expected. It is certainly a weird place, but has some charms, too; plus, staying a luxury hotel is nice!
