Adventures in Asia: Singapore

Today we began our day shopping at a mall called Raffles City.  Like the malls in KL, Raffles City was as nice if not nicer than most malls in North America.  From Raffles City we headed out on a little walking tour of the neighborhood, passing St. Andrew's Cathedral;

the Supreme Court;

Parliament;

the incredibly beautiful Fort Canning Park;

and, finally, the National Museum.

Luckily, we made it into the National Museum just a minute or two after the rain began.

The National Museum was a great place to be no matter the weather, since it was both well air conditioned and, of course, well sheltered.  It was also very interesting--and very affordable, since we were given the student rate for admission, just $5!

After an hour or two at the museum, the rain had stopped and we walked back to Raffles City for lunch, and then over to St. Andrew's to actually go inside.

After visiting St. Andrew's we took the MRT back to our hotel and rested and cooled down for a couple of hours.  Once it was evening and the sun was setting we headed down to see the light and water and music (and fire) show that the Marina Bay Sands puts on out front of its casino/hotel/shopping mall resort.

This was followed by another light and music show a short walk away, in a park, with structures known as "supertrees"--man made towers that somewhat resemble enormous trees, and are covered with vines and other plants.

Describing this show would be especially tough, but basically these trees lit up to music.  Both were interesting shows, but I was a bit disappointed, because they lacked the simple class of the fountains and music shows in KL.

After the show we ate dinner in the basement food court of the Shoppes at Marina Sands.
