Adventures in Asia: Kuta, Bali, Indonesia

My next destination is Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, but from Dili that is not an easy trip. So, I spent last night in Bali, this time in Kuta close to the airport.

Given the bad Bali traffic and how little distance I had to go, I opted for a moto-taxi from the airport to where I am staying, the Grand Istana Rama resort.

The G20 starts on Monday in Bali, and there is plenty of evidence that it is approaching, from US Air Force aircraft at the airport, presumably preparing for President Biden's arrival, to flags and signs and newly paved roads.

Kuta is a far cry from Ubud--in some ways it is hard to believe they are both Bali. Kuta reminds me more of the Las Vegas strip, whereas the Ubud rice patties were as tranquil and calm as anywhere I have been!

I ate dinner at my resort, where you can select skewers of meat, seafood, and vegetables to be grilled fresh and delivered to your table.

The food was tasty, but by far the best part of dinner was what my server nicknamed privately to me the "moms group" that hit the dance floor!

I fly to Malaysia later today, but I began my morning walking a couple of kilometres north along the beach.

Early in the morning this was about as tranquil as I suppose you will ever find in Kuta.

I came back into the streets and alleys to find some breakfast and make my way back to my hotel.

Before heading to the airport I enjoyed an iced coffee at this trendy coffee shop called "% Arabica."
