Our Sunwing package (only $785 each!) included transit from Montego Bay and accommodation and breakfast at our resort, called Rooms.
We were upgraded to an ocean view room, and this is the view from our large balcony.
The beach is known as Seven Mile Beach, and it is very long, extending north from the town of Negril along the eastern coast of Jamaica, with beautiful white sand the whole way (although apparently it is more like only four miles long than seven).
Rooms is more or less in the middle of the beach.
So far we have mostly stuck fairly close to our resort, although we walked into town on our first full day. Our resort only serves breakfast, which has been kind of nice, actually, because it's meant we've been dining up and down the beach. Our favourite place is called Kamara and serves wonderful food right on the beach.
It is especially ideal for dinner, because the sun is less intense, and the sunset is beautiful.
We have been surprised at how expensive food is--fairly close to prices we pay in Canada.
Today we got a little more adventurous and hired a small boat and guides to head out into the sea.
Our first stop was a reef a little ways off shore, where we could snorkel. I could not take any photos, but it was a nice spot to snorkel, with lots and lots of what I would describe as medium-sized colourful fish and plenty of beautiful aquatic vegetation and coral. I also got to see a dinner plate-sized sting ray swim just a few feet underneath me, and that was my favourite part.
From the reef, we headed to a small island called Booby Cay--so called, apparently, because the booby birds inhabit it.
The main reason we came to Booby Cay was for lunch--barbecued spiny lobster!
Apparently lobster season just opened today after a three month "closed" period to allow for breeding. The lobsters were delicious, and the setting was perfect.
Before and after lunch we got to explore a little bit of the island.
