Adventures in Europe: Copenhagen, Denmark

We got a great deal on our flight to Copenhagen, but it was not a direct one, that's for sure.  We left Edmonton around noon via Chicago and London, and landed around noon Copenhagen time the next day, Wednesday, August 20.

Our hostel was the annex (brick building) of the Absalon Hotel.

It was a funky place, with bright colours and a great view from our room.

We took a quick nap, and woke up determined to stay awake until a more reasonable bed time.  Our plan for implementing this strategy was to walk a ten kilometer loop that we had mapped out before arriving.  We saw public gardens (Botanisk Have);

parks;

an old military fortress (Kastellet);

the famous little mermaid statue;

churches (Churchillparken & Frederiks Kirk);

fountains (Gefionspringvandet);

palaces (Amalienborg Slot);

city hall;

canals;

the Lego store;

the Tivoli Gardens amusement park;

and stopped at a pub for dinner.

That night we tried to sleep with only mediocre success.

The next morning after a breakfast of 7-11 croissants and coffee, Andrea went back to sleep and I walked over to the Christianborg palace.

I walked around and saw some of the stable's horses, out for some exercise.

The best part was the Tarnet, or tower, which afforded excellent views of the city.

You can see more Copenhagen photos here.
